Exmouth Visit

In June 2015 I visited my father and other family members in Exmouth. This was more or less an annual pilgrimage for me on the occasion of my Father's birthday. Gatti could not come on this occasion due to work committments, but we both felt that it was important for one of us to be there.

Exmouth is a seaside resort located in Devon, in the South West of England, approximately 18 kilometres from Exeter. It is situated on the east bank of the river Exe estuary, as suggested by the name. In 2015, my brother Phil and his Wife Tami lived in Exmouth, which is the reason that my father ended up buying an apartment there (the apartment was originally intended for both my parents, but my mother died before the move could be completed).

During my visit to Exmouth, Philip and I took Dad on an excursion to Exeter, where we had a cup of tea in the Cathedral Green. Sadly, the cathedral was undergoing extensive renovations to the outside of the building so it was not a good time to take pictures of the cathedral itself.

At least Dad seemed to enjoy his wander around Cathedral Green (assisted by Philip). At eighty-five years of age, he was getting a bit too frail to do anything more strenuous.

To celebrate his birthday, the family took him to the Bamboo Chinese restaurant in Exmouth. Dad liked Chinese food - well who doesn't? He seemed to enjoy the evening, although for obvious reasons we didn't keep him out too late.

My visit to Exmouth was also an opportuity to see my Grandchildren William and Emily. As you can see from this photograph they were still very young at the time. At the time of writing (2025) i guess they must both be teenagers by now. Sadly the last time I saw them was in 2017, when I went back to the UK for maybe the last time to attend my father's funeral.
