About the Author
LEN WELLS was born in Aylesford, Kent in 1930, and spent most of the first part of his life living in and around the areas depicted in this novel. In 1969 he made the first of several career moves, to the north and north Midlands. He has spent most of his life working in the paper industry and in the mid-1970s became chairman of Brittains paper, based in Cheddleton in Staffordshire. In 1979 Len finally moved back to his beloved Kent as a result of another career move, before retiring in the early 1990s.
Len and his late wife Elsie have given a lifetime of service to the church, notably in St.Peters, Aylesford, Kent, Selby abbey in Yorkshire, and St. Edwards, in Leek, Staffordshire. Len and Elsie also gained recognition for their hospice volunteer work in Kent, which they began following Len's retirement in the 1990s and continued into the early 2000s. Following Elsie's death in 2013, and due to his own failing health, Len lived in Exmouth, Devon, close to his family. He finally passed away in 2017, and is survived by two sons, Chris and Phil.
"Wilkies War" is Len's only full length novel.
