Apart from our trip to England in June and our Holiday in Greece in September, the rest of 2014 was relatively quiet. In October we spent another pleasant afternoon in Boberg Niederung Nature Reserve. By this time, Gatti had lost sufficient weight that she could walk around the airfield without getting tired.
Boberg is always a fallback when we just want to get away from it all and have a quiet stroll in the countryside, plus you get to see the gliders taking off and landing, and there is a nice Café where you can get a coffee and something to eat.
The Boberg nature reserve is one of the most species-rich nature reserves in Hamburg, and encompasses a diverse range of habitats, including moorland, heathland, and marshland, as well as inland dunes (as I’ve probably mentioned before).
There are several well-marked hiking trails, ranging from three to five kilometres in length, if you’re into that kind of thing (I personally prefer taking things easy but Gatti is a keen walker these days). Each trail takes you through a different kind of habitat, so I suppose it’s a good place to bring the kids for a family outing if they want to learn about wildlife.
